"If the God you believe in as an idea doesn’t start showing up in what happens to you in your own life, you have as much cause for concern as if the God you don’t believe in as an idea does start showing up. It is absolutely crucial, therefore, to keep in constant touch with what is going on in your own life’s story and to pay close attention to what is going on in the stories of others’ lives. If God is present anywhere, it is in those stories that God is present. If God is not present in those stories, then they are scarcely worth telling." ~ Frederick Buechner

These Boots Are Made for Walking

B just loves boots. He got his first pair of rainboots earlier this year, and he wanted to wear them all the time, every day, indoors and out.

And you can imagine his delight when he discovered rainboots were good for puddle-jumping (or hopping, since he has not yet mastered jumping skills).

I found these boots on clearance at the end of the fall season last year.
They were just too cute and too cheap to pass up, and as I was getting rid of hardy winter gear in preparation for our move to Texas, these were one of the things I had to keep.

Little Big Foot, as N likes to call B sometimes, is already in a toddler's size 7, so we've been letting him wear these around the house for the past couple days (it's still much too hot outside to warrant boots).
I mean, it's not like it's obvious that he's pleased with them or anything.

He has also taken a liking to putting on our shoes (N's and mine). He gets them out of the closet, lines them up neatly by the bed, and uses the bed to balance himself as he fits his little feet inside.

Since I have the world's littlest feet for a grown woman, it's not nearly as funny when he puts on my shoes as it is when he puts on N's shoes.
