"If the God you believe in as an idea doesn’t start showing up in what happens to you in your own life, you have as much cause for concern as if the God you don’t believe in as an idea does start showing up. It is absolutely crucial, therefore, to keep in constant touch with what is going on in your own life’s story and to pay close attention to what is going on in the stories of others’ lives. If God is present anywhere, it is in those stories that God is present. If God is not present in those stories, then they are scarcely worth telling." ~ Frederick Buechner

Yard Mischief, Kimchi, & A "Proh-Jek"

Woohoo! We had a sick-free weekend!

We spent much of the weekend outside, because now that Texas spring is upon us, things are growing wild and crazy in our yard. I'm kicking myself for not taking any "before" pictures, and I haven't taken any "after" pictures yet either.

I obviously don't blog for a living.

Anyway, being in the backyard provided ample opportunity for mischief of the Little B sort.
Chasing Daddy around the side of the house with the hose
You can't really see his face, but he's laughing maniacally
Cornering Daddy by the fence
Oh, no! He spotted me!
I also completed my Hannah Plays Hooky giveaway project over the weekend and he is on his way to Nebraska as of this morning. I'm working on finishing up another adorable order that I'm super-excited to share with everyone soon.

In some exciting food news (because we live in Texas, after all, where apparently, we have the highest number of restaurants per capita in the nation), I found this on the shelves of one of our local grocery stores. For those of you who aren't familiar with this savory scrumptiousness, I grew up with Maggi sauce throughout my childhood in Cameroon. I never ever saw it in New York, so I was more than a little elated to see this last week while grocery shopping and snatched it right up.
Yesterday morning, we stopped by the Asian shopping plaza across the street from church for an early lunch. We signed up to take Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University course at our church, and last night was the first class. Since B normally goes to bed around seven, we knew he would need to take a solid nap to make it through childcare. So we stuffed him full of Korean goodness before taking him home.
B loves "chip-chee" (kimchi). We can actually successfully bribe him to eat other foods he doesn't initially want by saying he can have kimchi. It's pretty awesome.

So with Easter quickly approaching, our art projects and story-telling around here have focused on the events of the Passion week.

Here is one of our recent "proh-jeks" (projects):
It was the first time I've let B use oil pastels, and he really liked how he could "push" the "kay-ons" around.

This morning, at breakfast, I was talking to B about Palm Sunday and how Jesus rode into Jerusalem. We had fun shouting, "Hosanna!" together. Then I decided to make a little game of it, and asked, "Did Jesus ride into Jerusalem on a motorcycle?"

B laughed and shouted, "No!"

We went through all sorts of forms of transportation (car, bicycle, dump truck, police car, loader) and animals (camel, zebra, dog, elephant). Finally, I asked, "Did Jesus ride into Jerusalem on a donkey?"

And instead of responding, "Yes," my little ham shouted, "HEE-HAW!"

Well, that's it for today. Have a marvelous Monday, everyone!

  2. Hahah! Maggi, made in Kemptthal, Switzerland. It's on every Swiss restaurant table. I'd stick with the Asian food! ;-) Have a nice day. Regula

    1. Regula, it's a little bit of nostalgia from my childhood. :)

  3. So sweet and very glad you added the descriptions under the pictures. I could so hear your little "B" laughing maniacally at his daddy in my head! Store up those memories, Hannah, because they will be grown up in a flash. I just visited my son who lives miles away to celebrate his birthday today (one of many reasons for our visit) and he's turning 23 in a couple days! Yikes! It only seems like a couple of years ago that he was the size of your little guy! Great post and thanks for linking up at Wedded Wed!
